The quokka is often called "the world's happiest animal," and it's easy to see why. With its small rounded face, bright eyes, and what looks like a permanent smile, the quokka seems designed to charm anyone who sees it. Native to Western Australia, particularly Rottnest Island, this small marsupial has become an internet icon and a symbol of gentle joy in the animal world. A marsupial is a mammal born incompletely developed. Isn't that cute? Wombats, possums, and koalas are all marsupials.

Quokkas are resilient creatures. Their environment is made up of forests and brushlands. They eat grasses, leaves, and shrubs, and have adapted to survive in environments where food and water is scarce. It sounds like they could even live in a desert if they had to! They're small and steady, they can hold onto energy easily with their stout size, and even extract water from plants. Unbelievable to imagine when you look at their cheerful and happy appearance. They seem so innocent, and easily overcome, but they're not!

Ultimately, quokkas represent something on the line between absolutely wholesome, innocent, and meek, and something strong, resilient, and surviving. Their gentleness straddles these worlds, and they don't rely on fear or aggression to survive the way other animals do. In a world that feels like you can only fit into one box, these unique animals are just as unique inside as they are on the outside.
